



President and Chief Executive Officer
Russell H. Plumb served as the Vice President, Finance and Administration and Chief
Financial Officer from August 2000 until December 2006, when he was named President
and Chief Executive Officer. From December 1999 to July 2000, Mr. Plumb served as
Chief Financial Officer of Emory Vision, a healthcare company. From 1994 to November
1999, he served as Chief Financial Officer and Vice President, Finance of Serologicals
Corporation, a publicly-held biopharmaceutical company. Mr. Plumb received both
a B. Comm. and a M.B.A. from the University of Toronto. Mr. Plumb has received designations
as a certified public accountant in Michigan and Georgia.
Co-Founder, Chief Scientific Officer and Senior Vice President of Research and Development
Joseph M. Patti, M.S.P.H., Ph.D. is a co-founder of Inhibitex, Inc. and has served as
the Chief Scientific Officer and Senior Vice President of Research and Development since
2007. He served as the Vice President, Preclinical Development and Chief Scientific
Officer of the Company from 1998 to 2007 and Vice President of Research and Development
from 2005 to 2007. From 1994 to 1998, Dr. Patti was an assistant professor at Texas A&M's
Institute of Biosciences and Technology. From 1996 to 1998, he served on the faculty at the
University of Texas Health Science Center Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. He currently
holds an adjunct faculty position in the biology department at Georgia State University. Dr.
Patti received a B.S. in Microbiology from the University of Pittsburgh, an M.S.P.H. from the
University of Miami, School of Medicine and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of
Alabama at Birmingham.
Senior Vice President of Drug Development
Geoffrey Henson, Ph.D. joined Inhibitex as Senior Vice President of Drug Development
in 2007. Previously he served as CEO, President and Secretary of FermaVir Pharmaceuticals,
Inc. from 2005 to 2007. From 2003 to March 2005, Dr. Henson was a pharmaceutical
consultant. He was a founder and Chief Operating Officer of AnorMED, a Canadian
biopharmaceutical company from 1996-2003. Prior to that, he held a number of management
and scientific positions in the Biomedical Research Group at Johnson Matthey from
1985-1996. From 1982-1985, Dr Henson was a researcher and member of the Basel Institute
for Immunology in Basel, Switzerland. From 1978-1981, Dr. Henson did post-doctoral
research at the Roswell Park Memorial Cancer Institute. Dr. Henson obtained his
M.S. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from New Mexico State University, and B.S. in Chemistry
from Dickinson College.
Vice President of Chemistry
Stan Chamberlain, Ph.D. has served as Vice President of Chemistry since late 2007. Prior to coming to
Inhibitex, he was Senior Group Manager in Medicinal Chemistry Oncology at Glaxo Smith Kline in Research
Triangle Park, NC from 2001 to 2007, working in the area of protein kinase inhibitors. From 1995 to 2001,
Dr. Chamberlain was a Group Leader in Medicinal Chemistry at Glaxo Wellcome in RTP, working in the areas of
antiviral and anti-inflammatory chemotherapy. From 1986 to 1995, he held several Senior Scientist positions
in the Experimental Therapy Department at Burroughs Wellcome in RTP, focusing on nucleoside agents for
anti-viral and oncology applications. Dr. Chamberlain received a B.S. and a Ph.D. from the
University of Iowa Chemistry Department. Dr. Chamberlain's publications and patents cover the areas of
antiviral, anti-cancer and anti-inflammation chemotherapy, with a focus on protein kinase inhibitors and
nucleoside derivatives.
Vice President of PreClinical Development
Jeff Hutchins, Ph.D. has served as Vice President of PreClinical Development since 2007. He served as
Director of Monoclonal Antibody Development from 2001 to 2007. From 1991 through 2000 he held several
Senior Scientist positions in Discovery Research at Glaxo Wellcome with a visiting professor appointment
in the Department of Biochemistry at Rush Medical College. Dr. Hutchins received a B.S. in Biology from
Oral Roberts University, a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Texas, Health Science
Center at Houston – Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and postdoctoral training from University
of Southern California – Department of Microbiology. Dr. Hutchins publications and patents span the
fields of infectious disease, immunology, oncology and osteoarthritis.
Vice President of Biology
John Vernachio, Ph.D. has served as Vice President of Biology since 2007. He served as Senior
Director of Biological Sciences from 2004 to 2007 and as Director, Biological Resources from
1998 to 2004. From 1997 to 1998, Dr. Vernachio held several management positions with Valentis,
Inc. including Director of Life Sciences. He was a member of the Gene Therapy Unit of
Baxter Healthcare Corp. from 1991 to 1997, where he served as Manager of Molecular Immunology.
Dr. Vernachio received a B.S. in Animal Sciences from the University of Vermont, a Ph.D. in
Biochemistry from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and was a post-doctoral
fellow in the Department of Immunology at the Research Institute of Scripps Clinic.
Vice President of Finance
Peter Azzarello has served as Vice President of Finance since 2007. He served as Director
of Finance from 2004 to 2007. Prior to joining Inhibitex, Mr. Azzarello served as Associate
VP of Financial Reporting for NetBank from 2001 to 2003. From 1994 to 2000 he held senior
financial positions with several private and publicly traded companies including, Metavante,
a subsidiary of Marshall & Ilsley, ProxyMed, Grand Adventures Travel, and G.L. Homes. Mr.
Azzarello received a B.A. in Accounting and Finance from Florida Atlantic University and
is a certified public accountant.
Vice President of Clinical Development
Anna Novotney Barry, M.S. joined Inhibitex as Vice President of Clinical Development in
2010. From 1996 until joining Inhibitex, she held several global scientific and
management positions within clinical development at UCB Pharma SA, most recently having
responsibility for leading clinical program development of certain monoclonal antibodies
within the Immunology therapeutic area. Previously, she held a number of positions
within Clinical Development or Drug Discovery at Solvay, CryoLife, and Searle. Mrs.
Barry received a B.S. degree in Biology from University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana
and M.S. degree in Immunology from Southern Illinois University.
Vice President of Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance
Uday Patel has served as Vice President of Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance
since June 2011. He joined Inhibitex in 2010 as Director of Regulatory Affairs. Uday has over
20 years of experience developing and implementing GXP quality systems to support clinical product
development for biotechnology and pharmaceutical applications focused on autoimmune indications,
metabolic diseases and infectious disease therapies. He is also experienced in authoring, reviewing
and compilation of global regulatory submissions. From 2004 to 2010, Uday held several management
positions with Peptimmune, Inc. including Vice President of Regulatory and Quality. He was a member of
Altus Pharmaceuticals' Quality function from 1997 to 2004, where he served as Associate Director of Quality
Control. Prior experience also includes various positions within Quality Control at Biopure Corp from 1991
to 1997. Uday received a B.S. in Biochemistry from Suffolk University and a Master of Liberal Arts (ALM) in
Biology from Harvard University.
